Jean Schlumberger: Inspired by Nature Public Lecture

Speaker: Dr Michael R Taylor, Chief Curator and Deputy Director, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
This talk introduces the life and work of remarkable artist-jeweller, Jean Schlumberger (1907-1987), who in 1930s Paris began his career as an apprentice to the Surrealist fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, and later became the signature designer for Tiffany & Co. in New York. Discover how he transformed 20th century fashion with his sculptural designs for vibrant objets d’art and fashion accessories, many of which were inspired by nature.

Jewellery Design

Date: Saturday 19 & 26 October, Saturday 2 November
Time:  4.00-6.00pm
14 – 19-year olds.
Course fee: 500 QAR per person.

Designers often begin the process of jewellery design with rapid sketches and concepts in watercolour. Using examples from the temporary exhibition and permanent galleries, try your hand at creating your own unique jewellery design concepts on paper and card


Bead Insects
